SUFFER THE PARENTS SO AS TO PROTECT THE LITTLE CHILDREN?

In the UK parents who want to accompany their children to Christmas carol services (example above) and other festive activities are being officially vetted for criminal records in case they are paedophiles. In the latest expansion of the New Labour government’s child protection agenda, parents are checked against a database of people banned from working with children for sex offences and for other reasons. Among those affected are parents at a village primary school who have been told they must be vetted before they can accompany pupils on a 10-minute walk to a morning carol service at the local church. Other schools have instituted vetting for parents attending Christmas discos on school premises. Some schools require checks on parents who volunteer to walk with children from the school to post letters to Father Christmas.

What puerile nanny state nonsense. Yet another example of an overbearing, interfering, bungling government fiddling with society while the economy is in pieces on the floor. What gives a dying government that has done more in the last 12 years to debase the currency and notion of “family” than any other in British history the right to interfere in people’s lives to such an extent ? How typical of them to assume every parent is potentially “guilty” – and extend their monitoring and arrogant hectoring accordingly. And if our rulers, so keen on same-sex relationships, single parent support and politically correct “progressive” thinking, are so suffused with enthusiasm for protecting children from paedophiles, can we assume that they’ll be writing to former Hitler Youth and Nazi anti-aircraft gunner Pope Benedict XVI (pictured above in apparently festive mood), informing him that every single one of the Roman Catholic clergy and hierarchy in this country, who we have much more reason to be suspicious about than the average parent, will be similarly vetted prior to any christmas services involving children that they may officiate at ? Presumably convert Tony and Cherie would object to that, but it would be a damn sight more effective protection for children than insulting the intelligence and integrity of millions of their parents.

UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown yesterday attacked Pakistan’s record on fighting extremists and insisted it must “take out” Al-Qaeda bosses Osama bin Laden (pictured above) and Ayman Zawahiri, his number 2. The PM made little attempt to hide his frustration at Pakistan’s failure, 8 years after the 9/11 attacks in the US, to track down the men responsible, who are believed to be hiding out in the north of the country. He called on Pakistan’s army and security services, as well as the country’s political leaders, to take on Al-Qaeda directly in the tribal areas of South Waziristan near the Afghanistan border and not only isolate but “break” the terror network. Maybe he should send strategic genius Bob Ainsworth to assist.

Mr Brown (pictured above) then announced that Britain has earmarked around £665 million worth of aid for Pakistan over the next 3 years. The money is to be used on a range of projects including rebuilding the country’s education system to try to weaken the lure of extremism. What the bloody hell is this government doing sending millions of pounds of OUR money to a country that can afford its own nuclear weapons ? Especially at a time when our own economy is knackered. It’s not just stupid – it’s criminally irresponsible. And if Gordon wants to rebuild an education system to try and weaken the lure of extremism, he’d be better spending the money on schools in places like Birmingham, Leeds, London and Manchester.

In Switzerland voters went to the polls yesterday to vote on a referendum on whether to ban construction of minarets (example above), which right-wing parties regard as symbols of militant Islam. The Swiss People’s party, which has campaigned in previous years against immigrants, has led the campaign for a ban, stirring fears of boycotts and violent reactions from Muslim countries. Opinion polls had recently suggested growing support for the proposal – and so it proved, with voters backing the move, despite the fact that the country’s 7-member cabinet that heads the Swiss government had spoken out strongly against it. Human rights groups have warned that Islamic violence may follow. Oh well, in that case democracy had better be suspended anyway – after all, the liberal-elite everywhere seem to regard the threat of Islamic violence as much more defensible and acceptable than freedom of speech. I suppose all the frustrated Swiss minaret builders can now come to Britain where they’ll probably get a grant to resume construction quicker than you can say “Islamophobia” – because one thing’s for sure, none of us living here would ever be allowed by our chattering class multi-cultural all-inclusive Muslim-appeasing political establishment to ever get a vote on such an issue. The establishment will maintain a steadfast silence over indigenous democracy in the UK – just as they keep silent about the religious intolerance in certain Muslim countries which is rather more severe than stopping a few buildings going up.

Scientist have reportedly grown meat in the laboratory for the first time. Experts in Holland used cells from a live pig (above) to replicate growth in a petri dish. The advent of so-called “in-vitro” or cultured meat could reduce the billions of tons of greenhouse gases emitted each year by farm animals — if people are willing to eat it. So far scientists have not tried tasting it, but they believe the breakthrough could lead to sausages and other processed products being made from laboratory meat in as little as 5 years. They initially extracted cells from the muscle of a live pig. Called myoblasts, these cells are programmed to grow into muscle and repair damage in animals. I wonder what radical Muslims will make of THAT ? Is artificial pig “unclean” ? As if we didn’t know. I sense ersatz porcine intifada’s coming our way.

Your pig story and the point you brought up was very interesting. I once read a science fiction story by an author I can’t remember, where pigs were cloned in such a way that they did not have “cloven” hooves, thus were supposedly did not run afoul of certain religious dietary laws. Did that make it ok for those religious restrictions to be ignored? Probably not. But it’s interesting.
