CALEDONIAN COMMENT

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab (pictured above), a 23-year-old Nigerian, has been charged with attempting to blow up a transatlantic airliner carrying 278 passengers on Christmas Day. The alleged bomber has been charged in hospital with attempting to destroy the aircraft during its final approach to Detroit airport, the US justice department said. American prosecutors claim that Abdulmutallab, who finished an engineering course at University College London last year, had a device attached to his body when he boarded the plane in Amsterdam on Christmas Eve. He passed through the airport in transit after flying from Lagos. Now I don’t claim to be an expert on Islam mate, but just exactly how is blowing a passenger plane out of the sky supposed to enhance the interests of the “religion of peace” ?

Abdulmutallab (pictured above being taken off the plane), described as a devout Muslim, reportedly attempted to ignite an explosive device on the plane ”after shouting about Afghanistan”. Bomb materials had apparently been sewn into his underwear, an authoritative American report has said. He’s apparently the son of a prominent Nigerian banker and was barred from returning to Britain earlier this year. So yet again we have the disturbing spectacle of security services failing to communicate with each other. And yet again it’s seen that most of these suicide bombers aren’t economically challenged, but are rather from prosperous, well educated backgrounds. So maybe we as a country should stop handing out misguided foreign aid to places like Gaza and instead start purging the rich, eloquent alien nutcases in our own places of learning. Or would that mean New Labour losing inner-city Muslim votes ?

And just to show how far the UK authorities will go to appease Islam and other alien faiths, British Transport Police have dropped the word “Christmas” from a national publicity poster to avoid upsetting people who do not “buy into” the Christian festival. The word was proposed as part of a slogan on the poster, which is designed to alert people to the extra number of transport police on duty over the festive period. The slogan – devised by an advertising company commissioned by the Transport Police – read “Christmas presence”, a pun on the word “presents”. But in a move branded “bonkers” by Christian leaders, the police’s marketing department decided the word Christmas could anger non-believers or people from other faiths who disliked its Christian connotations and the poster above is now being used. I just hope that when Sharia Law is imposed our Muslim masters will be equally considerate. So to be politically correct, Merry Holiday.

A new survey in the UK has found that couples who share household chores (example above) are happier than those where one partner is the breadwinner and the other is the home-maker. According to new research, neither partner should ideally take on more than 60% of domestic chores, from cleaning to childcare. As a result, the traditional family in which the husband goes to work while his wife remains at home to look after the children and do all the housework is less likely to result in a happy marriage, says the research. Marvellous – I’ve tried to avoid doing the dishes for bloody years and now this !
