The $700 billion US bank bailout was yesterday left in chaos after the House of Representatives voted down the plans. After days of negotiations it had been thought that Democrats and Republicans had agreed a deal which could be passed by both the House and the Senate. But in a shock vote the measures were rejected in the House by 228 votes to 205. A ‘partisan’ floor speech by the Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (pictured above) reportedly stirred enough opposition to kill the bill, with statements like “the party is over for Wall Street high-flyers”. President Bush, who will now lead an attempt to rescue the bailout package, said he was “very disappointed” at the result. Yes – but he doesn’t have to face an election in a few weeks, while many members of the House do – and it’s clear voters on both sides of the Atlantic are not convinced that bankers and speculators deserve to be bailed out. And in any case he should have known that as soon as Gordon Brown visited the White House and supported the scheme it was bound to run into trouble !

Only a day or two ago we heard that despite the Credit Crunch, the Queen is having a plane designed with the comfort of her pet dogs very much in mind. Not to be outdone with this “let them eat cake” mentality, Prince Charles (pictured above left with his former mistress Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall)  has revealed plans to celebrate his 60th birthday with not one but two lavish gatherings. The first will be an enormous state banquet, hosted by the Queen and attended by around 170 guests, at Buckingham Palace on November 13. This will be followed two days later by another celebration  -  this time for 75 of Charles’s closest friends and family  -  at Highgrove in Gloucestershire. Charles reaches the age of 60 on November 14, midway between the two celebrations. At his insistence, he will spend the day relaxing with his family. Well at least I suppose that’s a sign of an improvement of sorts - for many years he used to relax with someone else’s family. When will these out-of-touch Royals get their just deserts and be forced to all secure a proper job ? - if they can find one – and if anyone would employ them.

And while we’re on about teutonic aryans. Far-right parties made sweeping gains in Austria’s closely fought general election yesterday, with their strongest showing since 2000 when the country suffered European Union sanctions after a far-right party entered government. The Freedom Party, led by Heinz-Christian Strache (pictured above), gained more than 18 % of the vote – nearly doubling its share of support – after running a strident campaign against “foreign criminals” and “asylum cheats” and pledging to take Austria out of the EU. A second right-wing party, the Alliance for the Future of Austria, headed by the veteran far-right populist Jörg Haider increased its support from 4 % to 11.5 % . A spokesman for Mr Haider’s party described the result as a ” historic success” yesterday. “It will completely change the political landscape in Austria,” he said. A triumphant Mr Haider went on Austrian television last night and insisted that both right-wing parties should now work together. “Voters now expect us to do something for Austria.” Didn’t Adolf come from there as well ? Anyway, before all our left-wing bleaters start advocating the isolation of Austria for its temerity to vote in a democratic election for the parliament it wants, perhaps these same left-wing bleaters might care to reflect that votes for far-right parties in mature democracies in Europe don’t reflect a wish to have fascism – but they DO reflect that the average man in the street is sick and tired fed up with uncontrolled immigration, appeasement of Islamic fundamentalists, erosion of their national identity and banal political correctness. So it’s really very simple – if you want to curb right-wingers, do something about these issues.

The average UK household faces a lifetime tax bill (above) of £668,000 at current rates of taxation, campaigners said yesterday. The figure has risen 6 per cent in a year, according to the TaxPayers’ Alliance, the pressure group which produced the estimates. The figures are based on the amount of taxes which it calculates that a typical household would pay over a period of 40 years in work and a further 15 years in retirement. The Alliance said that the lifetime bill had risen even more sharply for poor households, up from £233,000 under last year’s taxation rate to £264,000 this year – a 13 per cent increase. Corin Taylor, the group’s research director, said: ‘The Government say they sympathise with the plight of ordinary people, but they don’t seem to care about the massive tax burden that people have to pay throughout their lives. ‘People are struggling to make ends meet, and if the Government genuinely wants to help them they must cut taxes.’ No chance of that mate – the government are too busy using all our hard-earned to bail out their incompetent, crooked banker and speculator mates in the City of London.

Convicted paedophile and former rock star Gary Glitter (pictured above) has been banned from travelling to France and Spain under an order granted by UK magistrates, it emerged yesterday. Kent Police were granted the order at Ashford Magistrates’ Court last Thursday. Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, did not attend the hearing. A Court Service spokesman said: “On Thursday, September 25 at Ashford Magistrates’ Court, Kent Police applied for an application to prevent foreign travel to France and Spain until March 25 by Mr Paul Gadd.” Kent Police said they would not discuss individual cases or the possible whereabouts of Glitter in the county, except to say : “Kent Police will do everything necessary to protect children in this country, or abroad. From our point of view, it is easier to monitor someone who remains in the UK because we have comprehensive systems in place to manage any potential risks more effectively.” Strange that – I would have thought the best way to protect UK children from Gary Glitter was to let him leave the country and then not let him back in again.

One Response to “US MARKET TURMOIL WITH NANCY PELOSI STARRING IN KILL BILL 3”
  1. Lilly says:

Happy Birthday Chuck – gee 60 years old and never had a proper job. Can’t be all that satisfying for him really. Strange that the Queen doesnt trust him on the throne – she would have abdicated by now given her age if that was the case surely. What a sad life really, money or no money. And for goodness sakes, I know people say that Camilla has an incredible personalit but as a Queen? Nah.

Gary Glitter – sick and thank God the police can keep an eye on him. What cowards these guys are. To think I might have danced to his songs once upon a time – he has been obviously getting away with this all his life. Shame they cant take a pill to cure them but someone will find out where he lives and communitis will be outraged. You watch – your press over there will dig him out of hiding! Better off there – after he it was no doubt another Western sicko who took the other wee Madeline in Spain – the pain of which I could not imagine.
