CALEDONIAN COMMENT

Mayor of London Mr Boris Johnson ( pictured above ) took time out yesterday from the political turmoil engulfing his fledgling administation to take part in a Gay Pride parade through the city . Wearing a pink stetson, Mr Johnson, who in the past has had a rather patchy record at best on support for gay rights ( and is by all accounts rampantly heterosexual himself ), joined the colourful event which took as its theme “fairy tales, myths and legends” . So despite accusations that his attendance at the parade was an attempt to deflect critics away from his current problems, I concede that Mr Johnson’s participation in this gay event wasn’t designed as a complete distraction from the sensational resignation of Deputy Mayor Ray Lewis on Friday over allegations of “financial and sexual impropriety” . There is some consistency here . After all, it appears Boris has been listening to “fairy tales, myths and legends” from Ray all week . 

Readers will recall that yesterday we reported on the protests from certain quarters about the Berlin branch of Madame Tussauds displaying a waxwork of Adolf Hitler, sitting in his bunker only days before the Red Army conquered Berlin in 1945 . Yesterday a visitor to the exhibition tore the head off Hitler’s waxwork . The photo above shows Adolf’s bunker empty as his head is presumably being reinstated . Incidentally, I’m not sure the black-shirted guard at the entrance to the empty bunker was the brightest idea Madame Tussauds has ever come up with ! Anyway , I can certainly understand the sensibilities involved here, but if you try and relate German history by making no reference to Hitler and Nazism, you make no sense . People hearing that history have to be treated as discerning individuals capable of making their own minds up . Those who seek to censor or sanitise history not only add to the risk that history will be repeated by default – they also mirror Nazism by thinking they know best as they try and dictate what others can and cannot see .

Zimbabwean “President” Mr Robert Mugabe ( pictured above, spouting meaningless nonsense at the recent African Union summit in Egypt ) is reportedly applying a “deliberate policy” in Zimbabwe whereby only those people who voted for him in the recent Presidential election run-off are being supplied with food . Which doubtless explains why most of the population are now facing starvation ! The more you think of it, the more the cynical acceptance of Mugabe by African Union leaders last week looks like an obscenity . Such complicity by all the other tin-pot African dictators can’t just be explained by some kind of despotic brotherhood, or even a perverted anti-colonial, anti-white racist empathy . Because what Mugabe is now doing isn’t some populist campaign in which layabout ZANU-PF  ”veterans” dispossess and beat up white farmers, going on to destroy the most efficient farms in the continent through their ignorance and laziness .  When these leaders are now prepared to see AFRICANS starved to death by this geriatric maniac and then hail him as some kind of anti-British hero then it has to be said their African Union isn’t worth shit - and neither are they .

I make no apologies for showing the above photograph . It’s reportedly of an Iranian woman just before she’s about to be stoned to death, under the tenets of Sharia Law,  in the Iranian capital, Tehran . Now recently we’ve featured certain senior UK figures, most notably the Archbishop of Canterbury a couple of months back, then the Lord Chief Justice last Friday, suggesting that certain facets of Sharia Law could be introduced to “develop alongside” the UK legal system . Now another senior figure has come out with the same drivel. This time, only yesterday, the former Chairman of the English Bar Council, Stephen Hockman QC, stated that “legal reforms in the UK to incorporate Islamic principles were inevitable”, otherwise Britain will find that “a very considerable section of society will be increasingly alienated, with very dangerous results” . What absolute nonsense . What he’s really saying is that if we don’t grant Sharia Law for Muslims they are going to react violently . So in order to prevent this, Mr Hockman is advocating appeasing these hotheads by effectively giving in to blackmail . And he must know full well that any concessions, however small, will lead inevitably to further more extreme demands until stonings to death DO take place in the UK . Perhaps Mr Hockman might observe what happens in Muslim countries . You don’t see THEM rushing to incorporate elements of UK law into THEIR systems – so why should we in the UK bend over backwards to append a brutal, medieval, doctrinal, murderous set of alien rules on to a legal system that has taken 2 thousand years to evolve ? If people want Sharia Law, they should go and live in a Muslim country – but they MUST NOT be encouraged to think that through agitation and/or violence they can force its introduction in Britain . And for any senior figure within the UK legal system to suggest that this is possible or permissable is an absolute scandal . This has got to stop . These craven apologists have got to be told that UK law is NOT NEGOTIABLE . And the confirmation for this must come from Parliament and Government . For once, Gordon Brown must forget Muslim votes in inner-city marginal constituencies and nip this growing movement for appeasement of Islamic fundamentalist nonsense in the bud . If he doesn’t, at the next election the British people will . 

A British winner at Wimbledon !? No, it’s not a mis-print . A British winner at Wimbledon . Laura Robson, a 14 year old who hails from the actual area near the All-England Club, yesterday won the Girls’ championship with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win over Thailand’s Noppawan Lertcheewakarn at a packed No.1 Court . Laura is pictured above with her trophy . The good news ? Laura looks a great prospect and gets a wild-card to next year’s championships . The bad news ?  She’ll probably now get hounded by the UK media like others before her, to the point of distraction . The really bad news ?  Whisper this – she was actually born in Australia !

A very good Ladies final at Wimbledon . With the William’s sisters battling it out in great style before Venus ( above left ) eventually overcame Serena ( above right ) 7-5, 6-4 .  All the conspiracy theories proved to be false as they slugged it out from the baseline . And my bookmaker won’t be too happy either, because a couple of weeks ago his charming young female assistant, who is extremely decorative but perhaps not the brightest light bulb in the building, kindly agreed to accept a bet from me stating “Williams to win the Ladies final” . I’m looking forward to visiting his premises on Monday morning !
