DO WE LEAVE THE UNCONTACTED ALONE BUT TALK TO AL QAEDA ?
Posted by Caledonian Jim in Daily PostsWhat you see in this photograph is a group of very angry people . They’re members of an “uncontacted tribe” , one of the few left on Earth, firing arrows at an aircraft flying over their homes in the thickly forested border area between Brazil and Peru . It’s reported that there are about 100 such tribes, who consistently react with “extreme annoyance” if disturbed and clearly “wish to be left alone” . When you look around at the mess the rest of the planet’s in, can you blame them ? Let’s hope for their sake that they can maintain their isolation, because what have we got to offer them ? Well let’s see : the civilising mixture of disease – poverty – exploitation – western greed or eastern backwardness, augmented by medieval Christian or Islamic fundamentalism . Pass me my bow and arrows .
In New York yesterday former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair launched his Faith Foundation , to tackle global poverty, challenge conflict and unite the world’s religions . This Foundation apparently wants to promote faith as a force for good ( excepting of course pious suicide bombers ) , improve awareness between religions ( excepting those that are killing each other ) and tackle poverty and war ( excepting those areas where Blair started wars ) . This hypocritical liar is trying to transcend politics and launch himself on the world stage as a religious leader. The fact that he has recently converted to Roman Catholicism, a blatant ( but by no means the only ) example of ecclesiastical perversion and corruption, should tell you all you need to know about the crass, self-indulgent, arrogant, irrelevant bullshit espoused by the creator of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation .
The head of the CIA, Michael Hayden, has stated that “Al-Qaeda is essentially defeated” , particularly in areas like Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle-East . With the issue of smug statements like that we can only assume that Mr Hayden hasn’t visited Birmingham, London and Manchester recently .
But the recognition of Al-Qaeda as a respectable force in politics may not be that far away . The chief of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Sir Hugh Orde, has suggested that “talking to Al-Qaeda is not unthinkable but rather a question of timing” . I suppose mealy-mouthed appeasement of violent nutters is to be expected from a province where former terrorists from both Sinn Fein/IRA and the UDA/UVF are now cabinet ministers . It’s amazing how sworn enemies in Ulster have buried the hatchet as soon as tickets to the governmental gravy train were available to all of them . But if Sir Hugh is seriously suggesting that the likes of Osama bin Laden and Abu Hamza should be given any credence and any level of respectability through governmental contact and thereby ultimately have ministerial limos put at their disposal at the expense of the UK taxpayer then it’s high time Sir Hugh resigned – or sobered up .
And while we’re on about Islamic subjects, in France the Government, media, feminists and human rights groups are all outraged by a recent ruling from a judge who annulled the marriage of a young Muslim couple because the bride was not a virgin . Apparently the wedding night party was still under way when the enraged groom came downstairs “very upset” . Now normally, if “normal” can be used to describe such medieval nonsense , the assembled company is traditionally shown a bloodstained sheet to signify the bride’s “purity” . But on this occasion it didn’t happen . So the next day the groom went to court for an annullment on the grounds that he had been deceived about “an essential element of his marriage” . The sooner the entire Western world rejects all this kind of garbage the better . And as for the bride, she should have run downstairs after the groom and told the assembled company he couldn’t get it up .
A British holidaymaker has won compensation from a tour operator after it transpired his holiday hotel was “full of Germans” . Mr David Barnish, a UK businessman , was yesterday awarded £750 compensation from tour operator Thomson Holidays after finding his hotel “dominated by Germans” . We can only assume that when the Judge has been on holiday abroad he’s never been able to get a spare deckchair either !
Russian ex-President Vlaimir Putin has strongly denied allegations of human rights encroachments in Russia . During a visit to France, the Russian Premier and de facto man in charge stated : “Concerns about the lack of human rights in Russia are strongly exaggerated ” . Mr Putin then had dinner with French President Nicolas Sarkozy – who reportedly declined the opportunity to have a sushi course included on the menu .

I say let’s invade them as a diversion…
It’s incredible to realize there are still savage tribes. The issue: We are cutting down the forest at an alarming rate. They keep moving away faster and faster but the most beautiful jungle in the world is not infinite.
That is so fascinating to me about the uncontacted tribes. I do hope they can be left alone to live their lives in peace the way they want to it seems.
We have a 13 year old orphan from Liberia staying with us while he gets medical treatment on a hand injury he’s had since he was 3 months old. Adoption is weighing on our mind. Interestingly, I’ve had a similar thought to the one you have on these tribes. Would he really be any better off here in America with our epidemic consumerism than he is in the Liberian orphanage? When he had his physical here the doctor said he was in better health than most 13 year old boys he sees – particularly his cholesterol levels. Quite a statement when 13 year-olds in America are less healthy than orphans in Liberia because we stuff ourselves with excess.
I agree with Heidi in saying that they should be left alone. Our ‘western’ society seems to have a fixation on trying to change every ‘foreign’ culture/society that we meet into clones of ourselves. Like Tony says here, sometimes their way of life is better (in certain regards) than ours.
If you think about it, who is to say that our way of life is better than anyone elses? We only think our way of life is better because we see other ways as backwards and different than our own. I say leave them alone, some day they just may develop better technology than our own.
Hey there That’s an interesting and informative blog you have running
