YOU’RE SURELY FINISHED WHEN HAZEL BLEARS ATTACKS YOU

UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown faced an open attack from within his Cabinet yesterday for the “lamentable” failure by his Government to communicate with voters. Hazel Blears (pictured above), the Blairite Secretary of State for Communities, said New Labour’s reputation had suffered a “titanic battering” in recent weeks and warned of “dire consequences” if it did not reconnect with the public. Ms Blears also ridiculed the PM’s uncomfortable performance on the internet last week by saying: “YouTube if you want to.” Her comments, in a newspaper article, were seen as a thinly veiled attempt from the right-wing of the party to destabilise Mr Brown after one of the worst weeks of his premiership. The attack is also significant for another reason : when you are vulnerable to criticism from a puerile, incompetent poisoned dwarf like Hazel Blears, you really do know your time is up and you’re finished.

The UK Foreign Office yesterday defended seeking to hire a private jet for the use of incompetent Foreign Secretary David Miliband (pictured above). A contract for the hire of a charter aircraft went out in February and will last for 2 years, it is understood. The company that wins the contract must “provide a first class service” and be able to “provide an aircraft sometimes within a few hours’ notice”. Mr Miliband, who last week flew to Sri Lanka for an official visit, made more than 20 state trips last year to countries including Turkey, Syria and the United States. A department spokesman said recent changes in ministerial flight availability meant officials sometimes needed to charter aircraft at short notice, adding: “Value for money is a top priority.” Oh yes ? So “Value for money is a top priority” ? In that case, in view of the fact that every one of his expensive junket trips have achieved precisely nothing, why waste taxpayers’ cash sending Miliband overseas at all ?

Controversial Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s wife (couple pictured above) has filed for a divorce because she is “fed up of seeing him with young girls,” it was reported yesterday. Long-suffering Veronica Lario’s decision to split from her 72-year old perma-tanned husband comes just days after she slammed his idea for youthful and attractive female Members of the European Parliament as “shameless trash.” Her anger was also fuelled by the fact that her husband had attended the 18th birthday party of attractive blonde Noemi Letizia, giving her a diamond and gold necklace while failing to show up for his own 3 children’s parties. Now I know there’s no fool like an old fool – and I know I shouldn’t be encouraging sexist male chauvinism, but this bloke Berlusconi’s OK ! And in a front page Italian newspaper editorial last week it was stated that Mrs Berlusconi “had complained about her husband’s penchant for promoting starlets and showgirls, conveniently forgetting that she too was once one of them.” Which proves the old adage, “when a man marries his mistress, he creates a vacancy”.

Now in the UK the supermarket company Tesco is a runaway success – but they do have some stupid policies. A paramedic was facing disciplinary action yesterday after he walked into a branch crowded with shoppers wearing just a thong. And the reason? The man had previously gone into the large Tesco shop at Addlestone, Surrey (pictured above) wearing his full all-in-one green coloured ambulance uniform. He selected a bottle of wine but become annoyed when the check-out assistant told him it was the store’s policy not to sell alcohol to people wearing uniform. The paramedic then stormed out of the shop, walked to his vehicle in the car park and took off his uniform. However, he didn’t stop there – and stripped right down to the thong and pair of socks he was wearing. Then he walked back into the shop and asked the same cashier: “Now, I’m not wearing my uniform any more. Will you serve me ?” The assistant refused and the store manager was called, along with the police, who interviewed the medic about his actions which were said to have left shop staff and customers embarrassed and stunned. Tesco should be embarrassed and stunned as well, not just because it’s a stupid rule, but because in my experience their policy of not serving alcohol to people wearing uniform certainly doesn’t extend to police officers who buy booze there. Or maybe the check-out assistant was a Muslim and might have been offended by being asked to do the job they were being paid for ?
