SAVE US FROM TAX-GRABBING POLITICIANS SAVING THE PLANET

French President Nicolas Sarkozy (pictured above) vowed yesterday to lead the fight to “save the human race” from global warming, launching a carbon tax to encourage French families and industry to cut their use of fossil fuels. From 2010, France will become the biggest European economy to levy a carbon tax. The tax, initially set at €17 (£15) per ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, will be levied on individuals and businesses for their fossil fuel consumption. It means family fuel bills will rise, while businesses will pay more for factories run on fossil fuels. In a speech full of harsh warnings about the need for France to take the lead over CO2 emissions, Sarkozy said: “There are no reserves left. It’s a question of survival of the human race. There is one objective: to encourage homes and businesses to change their behaviour.” Just great – so cue UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown any day now, desperate for revenue, raising taxes under the guise of being a saviour too. Why don’t these politicians just do what they intended to do in the first place, raise taxes, without all this pretentious bullshit about saving the planet ? Or if they’re really serious about climate change, why don’t they incentivise people by cutting taxes on those who use less energy rather than raising taxes on everyone ? As if we didn’t know.
A religious fanatic hijacked an airliner earlier this week because the date, 9-9-09, was “the satanic number 666 turned upside down”. The Bible-carrying hijacker stood up as the plane was landing and told a flight attendant that a juice can he was carrying was a bomb. The pilot was forced to hold the 103 passengers and crew on the tarmac at Mexico City airport for more than an hour before armed police stormed the aircraft and escorted several handcuffed men away. Police later said there was only one hijacker, and the other men aboard were detained because the suspect, Jose Flores (pictured above), had told a flight attendant he had 3 accomplices, who he referred to as “the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost”. The other 3 (unholy) suspects were therefore quickly released. The world has got enough problems with Islamic nutcases threatening planes without Christian nutcases doing it too. And like Islamic nutcases threatening planes, this Bible-carrying Christian nutcase should have been shot. How long must the rational people on this planet put up with all this religious nonsense ?
Pervez Musharraf (pictured above), the former President of Pakistan who is living in London, is reportedly being protected by Scotland Yard at a cost to the British taxpayer of approximately £25,000 A DAY. The Metropolitan Police Specialist Protection Unit, known as SO1, has assigned a round-the-clock team of at least 10 men and women to protect Mr Musharraf, who lives in a 3-bedroom flat in West London. Musharraf has been using the flat as his base for about 4 months and is said to enjoy dining at the Dorchester Hotel and playing golf. Nice lifestyle if you can get it. Although he pays for a small team of retired Pakistani commandos to protect him, the decision to provide further security was taken at a meeting of the Royal and VIP Executive Committee held at the Home Office. What civil service idiots thought that up ? This bloke has probably got access to plenty financial resources and already organises his own security, so why are we being forced to pay for more ? Better still, tell him to piss off back to Pakistan and face the consequences of his own actions.
The South African female athlete at the centre of a dispute over her (or his) gender reportedly has both male and female organs, it was claimed yesterday. Caster Semenya (pictured above), the 18-year-old South African women’s world champion, is a hermaphrodite, according to an Australian newspaper. It said the world governing body, the International Association of Athletics Federations, is expected to disqualify Semenya from future events and advise he(r) to have an operation because the condition carries grave health risks. So (s)he has male traits ? Judging by the above photo, what a surprise. It’s a farce (s)he was ever allowed to compete in a woman’s event in the first place. You can’t help feeling that if (s)he had been white or not South African, (s)he wouldn’t even have got to the starting block.
The UN-backed commission investigating fraud in Afghanistan’s recent presidential election issued its first orders yesterday to exclude some ballots from the final tally. The 20 August poll has been increasingly marred by reports of ballot-box stuffing and suspicious tallies. The US monitoring group has said “large numbers of polling stations” had more than 100% turnout and President Hamid Karzai’s (pictured above) top challenger has accused him of “state-engineered” fraud. All ballots from 5 polling stations in Paktika province should be voided because they show clear evidence of fraud, the Electoral Complaints Commission said in a statement. This is a more severe step than ordering a recount, in which the votes could eventually be included. It seems the Coalition has been too successful in implanting the notion of democracy in Afghanistan – some there are so keen on it they’re voting twice. What a sordid farce – let’s get our brave troops out of there NOW.
The rapidly ageing and increasingly irrelevant Prince Charles, accompanied by his former mistress, now wife, the rapidly ageing and totally irrelevant Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall (pair pictured above), toured their local Waitrose supermarket yesterday morning in a bid to publicise the Prince’s struggling “Duchy Originals” range of organic foods. The couple strolled among the plebs to announce a commercial tie-up between the up-market retailer, who will have exclusive rights to sell Charlie’s organic swill. Sir Michael Peat, Charles’ principal private secretary, insisted the joint venture was not a case of the retailer “bailing out” the Prince’s company but rather “Duchy Originals” was “moving on to the next level”. Yeah sure, Charlie.
It’s hard to believe that it’s 8 years since 9/11. Everyone remembers where they were when the horrible events of that day unfolded. Eternal respect and support for the poor people who were caught up in the atrocity and their families and friends. Eternal rejection, contempt and war against the bastards who did it, their allies and the perverted application of their religion, disguised as “fundamentalism”, but which boils down to nothing more than doctrinal hatred for their fellow human beings.
