MUNICH MILIBAND’S SOLUTION FOR THE AFGHAN PROBLEM
Posted by Caledonian Jim in Daily Posts
It seems that British government policy is to find a way to allow the “vast majority” of Taliban fighters who are not Islamic extremists to reintegrate into Afghan society. The inept, incompetent Foreign Secretary David Miliband (pictured above) said yesterday that “dividing the insurgency” was a key part of Britain’s strategy in Afghanistan and he stressed that he did not see the conflict there as a war “without end”. Addressing the NATO parliamentary assembly in Edinburgh, Miliband said that the military effort in Afghanistan had to be matched by concurrent political initiatives that would allow the country to become free of Al-Qaeda and have good relations with its neighbours. He said that the Afghan insurgency was “not a monolith” and that Britain and her allies needed to show Taliban fighters that there was “a route back into society”. And he should know – after all there is a precedent in Northern Ireland, where IRA and UDA terrorists were given ministerial posts as part of the “Peace Process”. It’s amazing how New Labour politicians can window-dress craven surrender to terrorists killing brave British soldiers as if it was forward-thinking statesmanship. The spirit of Neville Chamberlain at Munich lives on; you can even imagine these appeasing politicians espousing “Peace in our time” just prior to Islamic terrorists resuming London bombings. Mealy-mouthed cowards, the lot of them.

UK comedian Ben Elton (pictured above) yesterday launched a foul-mouth tirade against the British Royal Family as he promoted his new book during a tour of Australia. The novelist called The Queen “a sad little old lady” and Prince Philip a “mad old bigot who wished it was still the war”. He then asserted that ageing nonentity Prince Charles was “a disillusioned ex-hippie”, Prince Andrew was “a bit of a yob,” and suggested Prince Edward was gay. Elton then mocked British families adding: ‘That’s a bog-standard British family in all its rainbow glory. If she (The Queen) had a black one and a disabled one, she’d have the full deck.” Not bad going, Ben – and you never even had to refer to that ageing irrelevance, the former mistress and now wife of Prince Charles, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, or sometime Nazi impersonator Prince Harry Hewitt. Well Ben, it looks like neither you nor me will be appearing on the New Year’s Honours List !

Failed US Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin (pictured above left after being interviewed by Barbara Walters, above right) has left her deluded political supporters in no doubt that she is up for a run at the White House in 2012 as she launched her new book – a gripping read, no doubt. John McCain’s former running mate would not officially confirm her plans for 2012 in the interview with and insisted that the next presidential election was “not on her radar screen.” But when asked whether she would play a major role she replied that “if people will have me, I will”. The inept self-styled Hockey Mom added : “My ambition, if you will, my desire is to help our country in whatever role that may be, and I cannot predict what that will be, what doors will be open in the year 2012.” Obama must be praying she helps the country by running too.

In the UK a husband reportedly strangled his wife while dreaming she was a burglar, a court heard yesterday. Brian Thomas and his wife Christine (couple pictured above) were on holiday in their camper van when he allegedly throttled her in the middle of the night. The court heard Mr Thomas “dreamed that a man had broken into their motor home”, which was parked in a pub car park. He reached out to tackle the intruder – but instead strangled Christine, his childhood sweetheart who had been his wife for nearly 40 years. Swansea Crown Court heard Thomas suffered from a “chronic sleep disorder which meant he was not in control of his actions”. Prosecutor Paul Thomas QC told the jury: ‘This is a highly unusual case.” Sure sounds like it. On a totally unconnected topic, I must finalise my plans to take the Mother-in-Law on a camper van holiday.

And if you think that marital story is unusual, try this for size. A French woman whose fiance asked her to marry him 2 days before he was killed in a car crash has been granted a posthumous white wedding in their village. Magali Jaskiewicz, who has been grieving for her partner since his death a year ago, became his legal widow in a ceremony (pictured above) held with family and friends. The Bride stood beside a portrait of her late partner as the marriage rites were read in the village of Dommary-Baroncourt in the east of France. Under French law posthumous marriages are possible as long as evidence exists that the deceased person had the intention while alive of wedding their partner. In Britain we don’t go as far as the romantic French, but marriages can take place even if, judging by the many photos of ceromonies seen in local newspapers, one or both of the participants are brain dead.

Yes, that’s really a romantic marriage, but much more sad.
Why?
