GORDON CAUSES A RIGHT ROYAL WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY

Pictured above are the Queen and her long-serving consort Phil the Greek, as the Queen’s Speech was read out in the House of Lords yesterday setting out the expiring New Labour government’s legislative programme in the run-up to the impending general election. With less than 7 months to go before the country must go to the polls, the Prime Minister Gordon Brown used the state opening of parliament to highlight a series of initiatives designed to draw battle lines between the parties. Among the bills put forward by the PM were proposals to ensure free personal care for 280,000 elderly and disabled people with the highest need and new guarantees for parents on schooling, as well as a crackdown on “risky” bank bonuses, and legislation committing the government to halve its deficit over the next 4 years.

Regretably, her Majesty was not given any details by the Government speech writers on either how all this proposed legislation could be passed in the time available, or even in the unlikely event that it was passed, how it might all be paid for. But it seems that in a period of economic stringency, when we’ve got brave service personnel dying in Afghanistan on almost a daily basis, this Government can still waste our time and money on nothing more that an ornate party political broadcast. No mention of immigration – no mention of curbing MP’s excesses – no mention of an exit strategy for unwinnable wars – no concrete proposals for the economy. Just the usual bullshit. It really is high time Mr Brown stopped asking the Queen to participate in such farces and asked her instead just to dissolve parliament and call a general election.

World leaders descended on Kabul last night for the inauguration of President Hamid Karzai, whose speech today is being billed as the most important of his career. As 300 foreign dignitaries, including US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (pictured above) gathered in the Afghan capital for tomorrow’s ceremony, Mr Karzai was expected to announce that he is serious about stamping out widespread corruption and is the only man capable of pulling Afghanistan out of its downward spiral. “We stand at a critical moment on the eve of the inauguration of President Karzai’s second term,” said Mrs Clinton. Why didn’t she just say : “If you don’t clean up your act in double-quick time Hamid old pal, the Coalition forces are out of here”? Or better still : “We’re out of here anyway”.

Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd (pictured above) has said he would consider an inquiry into the Church of Scientology after an Australian Senator tabled allegations against the organisation including, assault, torture, imprisonment, sexual abuse, embezzlement and blackmail. Senator Nick Xenophon tabled letters from former officials and staff of the Church of Scientology alleging criminal activity, and demanded a review of the organisation’s tax exempt status. “Scientology is not a religious organisation, it is a criminal organisation that hides behind its so-called religious beliefs,” he told the Senate. While he’s at it, he might care to investigate another quasi-religious organisation that could be accused of exactly the same offences – the international paedophile ring based at the Vatican which enjoys the spiritual guidance of the former Hitler Youth and Nazi anti-aircraft gunner Pope Benedict XVI.

US President Obama has a connection with China. His half-brother lives there (pair pictured above) and is married to a Chinese woman. The President’s visit to Beijing has given him a rare opportunity to meet Mark Okoth Obama Ndesandjo and he made family affairs his first order of business on arriving in the Chinese capital on Monday. The younger Obama lives quietly teaching the piano and running a business in the southern town of Shenzhen and had earlier said that he hoped to introduce the President to his wife. “She is his greatest fan,” he said. Some in the US, the usual dreary racists, have criticised Obama for using public funds to take time out for such family matters – but at least he didn’t emulate a previous white President and appoint his brother as Attorney-General.

During his Chinese visit President Obama inspected a Guard of Honour (pictured above) comprised of serving members of the Chinese Navy. From the facial expression of the sailor in the front row, second from the right, it seems that there are constipated Republicans to be found even in the People’s Republic. Or else the bayonet belonging to the bloke behind him is obviously in the wrong place !

Getting the poor old Queen to announce the latest ream of proposed legislation for the next year is pointless – Labour are nearly up as it is. Last year out of all the new laws on their agenda just two made it through. Labour have introduced over 500 since coming to power, most of which repeat previous laws ad infinitum. They’ve just proposed a law against attacking our country with a nuclear bomb, that would be mass murder I think – or at least destruction of public property – doh. Introducing laws every 5 minutes is a great way to distract the masses from the fact that old Gordon hasn’t a clue how to tackle any problems facing the country. The UK have just fallen behind Italy in the world economy, we are one of the few (if not the only) country to still be in recession – yet in comparison to our GDP we spent the most on a bailout and got the least results. That’s what happens when a subjugated country shrugs as an unelected leader takes control of the country.
