Background

Caledonian Comment first appeared as a live daily slot on the award winning Les Ross Breakfast Show on BRMB Radio, Birmingham, UK. During the 1980′s and 1990′s, the feature grew in terms of both its popularity and its notoriety, with cutting satire and withering abuse aimed at as many deserving victims as possible. After years of self-imposed exile and quiet retreat while he waited for a male menopause that never happened, Caledonian Jim has now returned, refreshed and as acid as ever,  to enrich your internet experience with cynical world-weary observations designed to prick the baloons of the pompous, the banal politicians, the jobsworths, the incompetent and the politically correct idiots who seem to inhabit positions of authority everywhere with ever-increasing, depressing regularity and cause us all grief. In addition, the Credit Crunch across the world has highlighted what many of us already knew : the bankers, financiers and speculators who control our lives are greedy, incompetent, arrogant, criminal and cowardly.

Caledonian Comment is not designed to take a “left-wing” or “right-wing” political stance. As far as the author of this blog is concerned, all politicians are deserving of equal contempt : as an example, consider the UK where those in power can find money for illegal wars, or bail-outs of already rich bankers, at the drop of a hat, but refuse to fund life-saving cancer drugs for their own ordinary citizens. Similarly, arrogant religious leaders and “fundamentalists” of all “faiths” and persuasions who base their operations on juvenile fantasy tales and then seek to control the planet by means, often violent, of imposing bigotry, poverty, ignorance and the brutal application of medieval intolerance and hatred deserve nothing but scorn. And the barbaric practice of certain religions to brainwash their deluded followers to commit crimes against humanity is beneath contempt.  News, current affairs and other interesting items are featured, with their sources usually being news websites, primarily but by no means exclusively UK ones. It is not this blog’s intention to “better” or “improve” news presentation as derived from these sources, but rather to append comment to the stories which may be satirical, scathing, damning, mocking, contemptuous – and very occasionally, supportive. All opinions expressed are those of the blog author and visitors’ comments are encouraged and welcome. In nearly every case a visitor comment, even if it expresses opinion diametrically opposed to the blog’s, will be published though the right is retained to refuse comments that are obscene or abusive.

Still searching for my male menopause: certainly reading your blog should speed things up a bit!

Lovely stuff: the more gadflies pricking the pompous the better.

Love, Abuse, and related squishy noises.

    Dear Jim,

I am posting this because I have recently launched a new online newspaper called Fingertips (www.fingertips.net) which allows users free of charge to customise their news – allowing them to have the news they choose, from the publishers they want. We’re extremely keen on incorporating blogs into our Publishers and we’d love to know if we could interest you in this? Please feel free to sign up or have a look around the site and tell us what you think! Many thanks, and keep up the great work with your blog.
